IDAL will sponsor the Lebanese pavilion at the Investment Horizons 2006 conference and exhibition that will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from December 18 to 20, 2006. The pavilion will include the different sectors that were affected by the July 2006 war.
The conference will be attended by many businessmen and other key Arab officials.
A panel will be dedicated to Lebanon to discuss investment and reconstruction post the July 2006 war, in addition to the investment opportunities available in the country.
The Lebanon panel will include Mr. Nabil Itani, Chairman and General Manager of IDAL, Mr. Nabil El Jisr, chairman of CDR, Mr. Ziad Hayek, president of the Higher Council of Privatization’s and Mr. Fadi Abboud, president of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists.

 

 

Al-Iktissad Wal-Aamal Group, in partnership with IDAL, is organizing the Lebanon International Investment and Reconstruction Conference on November 23 and 24, 2006 at the Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel Beirut. The conference will tackle issues related to Lebanon’s reconstruction and economic prospects, as well as business and investment issues related to reconstruction.
The conference will be held under the patronage of H.E. Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and will include ministers and senior officials, business leaders and economic experts.
Mr. Nabil Itani, IDAL’s Chairman and General Manager, will discuss on the second day of the conference, the outlook of IDAL on the investment environment and prospects.

 

 

IDAL and Cedarcom are jointly organizing a press conference on November 23, 2006 to launch the Mobile Internet service in Lebanon, a new service that will cover Greater Beirut on a first stage. Other stages will be subsequently launched to cover the entire Lebanese territory.
Cedarcom was recently granted the incentives of Law 360 under the Investment Project Incentive Scheme, namely ten-year exemption from income taxes and from taxes on the distribution of dividends.

IDAL participated in the Lebanon Building and Investment Conference in Beirut on September 20-21, 2006. Under the auspices of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, the conference gathered ministers and other high-level officials from the public sector, as well as representatives from several NGOs.
The aim was to discuss the adverse effects of the Israeli attacks during the summer, with delegates debating under the conference motto: Evaluation, Financing and Conducting. Mr. Nabil Itani discussed the implications of the war on investment, emphasizing the resilience of the Lebanese economy and the great confidence Arab and foreign investors continued to place in Lebanon.

 

 

Lebanon Opportunities organized for the fourth consecutive year, a business networking event on June 21 to 22, 2006 at the Dbayeh Convention Center in Lebanon. The event focused on the investment opportunities in Lebanon and included several workshops. These workshops gathered more than 50 experts to discuss topics such as Corporate Governance, Islamic Banking, Energy and Opportunities in Real Estate, IT and Private Equity Funds, among others.
IDAL was present at the conference to showcase the 15 projects of the Business Matching Service - BMS at IDAL.

 

 

IDAL hosted a tour for the local press corps to view some of the projects granted benefits and incentives through Investment Development Law 360 and facilitated by IDAL. The tour included a sample of five projects currently under construction in the Beirut and Mount Lebanon areas and was attended by more than 50 journalists from major Lebanese media outlets. They visited Serai Gate, the Hilton Beirut and the Grand Hyatt hotels in downtown Beirut, and Benta Pharmaceuticals in Dbayeh, Mount Lebanon. This was followed by a tour and lunch at HabtoorLand in Haret El Sit, Mount Lebanon.

 

 

The 2nd Sea-Front Development and Real Estate Conference in the Middle East took place on May 18, 2006. Under the patronage of Minister of Tourism Joe Sarkis, the conference was held concurrently with the Beirut Boat Show at Le Royal Hotel in Dbayeh, Mount Lebanon.
The joint event, organized by the Arab Marine Industries Association - AMIA in collaboration with the magazine The World of Yachts & Boats, attracted private and commercial investors, government officials, property owners, designers and planners.
IDAL introduced Investment Law 360 and highlighted incentives designed to attract investors and presented recent investment projects in tourism, particularly sea-front developments.

 

 

IDAL and the Beirut Bar Association jointly organized a workshop on investment legislation. At the workshop, held on June 14, 2006, at the association’s premises in Beirut, participants discussed legislation governing investment in Lebanon, with special focus on Investment Development Law 360.

 

 

IDAL attended the 12th Arab Economic Forum - AEF, held on May 11-12, 2006, at the Intercontinental Phoenicia Hotel, Beirut.
More than 1,200 high-profile government and business delegates were present at the two-day event to discuss trends and developments in the Arab countries.
The main topics discussed during the conference included the current oil boom and its effect on the economic future and on reforms in the Arab countries; Arab equity markets, banking and multinationals; and the outlook for private equity in the region.
The AEF was organized by Al-Iktissad Wal-Aamal and the Central Bank of Lebanon, in partnership with the International Finance Corporation - IFC of the World Bank and the Association of Banks in Lebanon.

 

 

The Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan organized, for the second year in a row, Expo Pakistan 2006 from March 29 to April 2, 2006 at the Karachi Expo Center.
The 5-day trade show gathered around 500 exhibitors to allow them to establish new contacts, build business alliances and establish joint ventures. The products displayed included, among others, textile garments, leather, furniture, pharmaceutical, food, fashion, jewelry, footwear and carpets. IDAL’s Chairman and General Manager attended the investment conference held during the trade show, which was headed by the Pakistani Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan.

 

 

IDAL and the Order of Engineers and Architects of Beirut jointly organized a conference on Investment in Lebanon: Environment and Legislation. The conference, held at the order's premises on January 24, 2006, aimed at increasing awareness of the Investment Development Law 360 and its implementation decrees. Mr. Nabil Itani, IDAL's chairman and general manager, delivered an opening speech along with Mr. Samir Doumit, the Order's president. Mr. Itani stressed on the importance of attracting investments and highlighted IDAL's achievements and the role of engineers in the investment process.
